SAT Training: Special Assistance in a Crisis

Syndey, Australia

On 6 and 7 May 2017, Kenyon CEO Robert A. Jensen presented a Special Assistance Team (SAT) Member training session in Sydney, Australia.

The attendees included Kenyon President and COO Brandon Jones, Customer Care Representative Ian Carfrae, registered Team Members, potential Team Members and guests from Air New Zealand and University of Technology Sydney.

The training was a daylong event and focused on working in a crisis, Disaster Human Services and the Special Assistance functional areas. The training goes beyond the essential soft skills of a SAT Team Member, such as empathy and compassion, and highlights the integral role the SAT Team Member fills by helping affected families understand the process and more importantly, helping them understand the information they receive throughout a mass fatality incident.

Many Team Members in attendance have been in the Kenyon program for 10 or more years and deployed to incidents such as the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and the 2010 Christmas Island boat disaster. It was especially useful to share these personal experiences with new Team Members as we discussed the practical considerations of being involved in a crisis involving mass fatalities and how to support those affected by the loss.

We sincerely appreciate our Team Members and their guests for taking advantage of this training opportunity and preparing themselves for future deployments.
